Discover Turkey

Turkey is a country of in depth history and culture, the Turkish Republic is located where the three continents of the old world, Asia, Africa and Europe, are closest to each other and straddle the point where Europe and Asia meet. Because of this geographical location, the mainland Anatolia has witnessed the mass migration of diverse peoples, shaping the course of history. Home to countless civilizations, Anatolia has developed a unique synthesis of cultures, each with its own distinct identity, yet each linked to its predecessors through insoluble threads. As a modern nation in an ancient land, Turkey today is the inheritor and conservator of such an essential, shared heritage of humanity.

Discover Kayseri

Kayseri, located in Central Anatolia, has a great historical background dating back to 3000 BC. Kültepe, one of the first cities in Anatolia and a critical route of Assyrian trade colonies, was established by Hattis, the local people of Anatolia before Hittites. Assyrians had founded commercial posts called “karum” by 2000 BC. One of the most important karums was the Kaneš in Kültepe. The cuneiform clay tablets found in Kültepe really reveal about the history of trade in Kayseri. The city was under Roman rule in 17 AD. This period was known as "Caesarea in Cappadocia" named in honour of Caesar Augustus . When the Arabs arrived the city, they called the city as “Kaisariyah” as a result of adapting the pronunciation to their writing. However, during the Seljuk rule, it eventually became “Kayseri”. During the strong reign of the Seljuks, the trade routes were revived and developed.

The first Turkish-Islamic campus in Anatolia was the Hunat Hatun Complex which was constructed in honour of Hunat Hatun in 1276 and includes a mosque, madrasa, baths and a soup kitchen. In the period of the Anatolian Seljuks, a large number of historical works of art such as mosques, madrasas and in particular the monumental tomb, called the “Turning Vault”, were constructed and have survived to the present day. The historical Covered- Bazaar, which is the third largest in our country, still serves as a shopping centre in Kayseri. Kayseri Castle, the Turning Vault, and the ancient volcano Mount Erciyes are the main historical and natural symbols of Kayseri.

The first aircraft and textile industries in our country began in Kayseri. Kayseri is also famous for its hand-woven silk and wool carpets, soudjouk & pastrami, and manti (a ravioli-like dish served with yoghurt). The city has a population of over one million. The city consists of 16 metropolitan districts. Erkilet International Airport is a short distance from the city center. The city is also connected to the rest of the country with railway service. The transportation within the city depends mainly on buses, personal vehicles and light rail transit. There are 2 new generation post-modern sport venues. One is Kadir Has Stadium, which has the capacity of 33,000 spectators. The other is Kadir Has Sports Arena, which has a seating capacity of 7,200 people. There are 3 state and 1 private universities in the city. The state ones are Erciyes University, the first and the largest one; Abdullah Gul University, started enrolling staff in 2013; Kayseri University, a newly-established one. Nuh Naci Yazgan is a private university founded in 2009. In addition, Kayseri is an industrialized city with a lot of various factories and companies in Kayseri Free Zone. The city was one of the first trade fair sites in the world. The Kaneš and Karum ruins, centres of trade between the Assyrians and the Hittites, are 22 kilometres to the east of Kayseri’s Foreign Bazaar, which itself belongs to the Seljuk period and lies 80 kilometres to the south-east of Kayseri.

Besides possessing a great number of relics and ancient remains from the Hittite, Assyrian, Greek and Roman periods, the city also has a great number of Ottoman and Seljuk historical works of art and has always been a trade centre as well. A great many large historical inns and caravanserais exist in its vicinity and several of them are still spectacular places to visit. The Sultan Han, 45 kilometres to the east of Kayseri, the Karatay Caravanserai, 60 kilometres south-east of Kayseri, and Incesu Kara Mustafa Pasha Caravanserai, 20 kilometres west of Kayseri, are among the few that still exist.

Mt. Erciyes, located at height of 1800-3000m and 25 km away from the city center, is one of the most attractive winter tourism centers in Turkey. Anatolian Wonderland, with a zoo within its body, is situated on an area of 180 decares. There are a lot of recreational activities to do as well such as ice skating, figure skating, and ice hockey etc. Mount Ali, one of the most important paragliding centers in our country, has characteristics of an international center for paragliding.

Cappadocia is a famous tourist destination located in the southwest of Kayseri. It has many areas with unique geological, historic, and cultural features.

The Toros Mountains, which lie within the borders of the city, the Kapuzbashi Waterfalls near Yahyalı and Sultan Sazlighi (bulrushes), also known as “Birds’ Paradise'' on the same route, are among the area’s natural wonders. Millions of birds, including 259 varieties, fly over or visit Sultan Sazligi every year. Kayseri, the centre of the Cappadocia region, is 80 kilometres from Göreme and 70 kilometres from the Soğanlı Valley, a picturesque valley of innumerable chapels, church halls, houses and tombs.

Did you know that Turkish is…

*         Spoken natively in two continents but only one country.

The largest Turkish-speaking city, Istanbul, has a population of 14 million. Istanbul is unique in that it spans two continents: half of it is in Europe, and the other half is in Asia. There are approximately 10 million native Turkish speakers in Europe and just under 70 million in Asia.

*         Spoken more than Italian and Greek combined.

There are 60 million native Turkish speakers throughout the world and 15 million more who speak it as a second language. So altogether that are over 75 million people on the planet who know Turkish.

*         Turkish words are essentially sentences.

As Turkish is an agglutinative language, complex phrases are formed by adding prefixes and suffixes instead of adding different words. For example, the word evlerinizden means “from your houses”, and consists of four individual parts: ev (house), ler (plural), iniz (your), and den (from).

Hello our guests here a guide for you, which helps you to adapt university, city and all the things, don't forget to examine it.

Briefly about Kayseri

Kayseri has been one of the most important trade centre in Anatolia over the history. Located in the right centre of the country, it has the feel of a modern, busy city but also has a strong traditional and religious atmosphere. The setting is spectacular, with the mountains of Erciyes Dagi and Kara Dagi in the background, a snow-capped volcano and green fields, and the nearby Sultansazligi bird sanctuary. The city is also well known for its textile and carpet industry, and has impressive monuments that reflect its history. Kayseri has always been a popular option as a base to explore Cappadocia.

Inhabited since 3000 BC, Kayseri was an important trade center, particularly as a stop along the Silk Road. The city is thought to have had three golden ages, first in 2000 BC as a trading post between the Assyrians and Hittites, next under the Romans in 200-300 AD, and finally as the second Seljuk capital from 1178 to 1243. The city was also the home town of the famous architect Sinan, and played host to the Turkish Grand National Assembly when Greek forces neared Ankara during the Turkish civil war.

Where to visit at Kayseri?

Kayseri Castle

Kayseri Castle, which is a third-century work from the Roman Period, was narrowed in the sixth century during the Byzantine Period. The castle was rebuilt in its present form during the reign of Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat I. It was repaired twice during the Karamanoğulları and Osmanoğulları periods, and it is strategically important that it is located on an important transportation point in Central Anatolia. It is a medieval castle with various additions in the city center since the past.

The historical castle, which was built on a flat area, consists of two parts, exterior and interior. The Inner Fortress has been turned into a separate fortress with the fortification walls added to its surroundings as it is in a higher structure compared to the Outer Fortress. Outer Castle, consisting of outer walls and bastions; It is used as the protection of the city, the administrative center and generally a residential area. The Arrow Bushing and Dense Bastion of the Outer Fortress, which have survived to the present day, l. It was built by Alaaddin Keykubat and surrounds the Seljuk State Hall.

Inner Castle; During the Turkish Period, various changes were made in the way of use by raising the surrounding Walls and Bastions and Gate Towers. Due to the fact that the city did not need any defense during the Ottoman period, neighborhoods were established in the inner castle and the existing Fatih Mosque Sheriff was built in this period. It was built under the supervision of Gedik Ahmed Pasha with the edict of Fatih Sultan Mehmed. When Kayseri passed from the domination of Karamanoğulları to the Ottoman Empire in 1467, it was named as Karamanoğlu Mescid-i Şerifi and its mosque is in ruins. Later, it was repaired in 1711, 1778, 1886 and finally in 1990.

Cumhuriyet Square

Cumhuriyet Square, which is described as the heart of the city, is one of the best places to visit and stay. The square, which contains the traces of the city with a history of five thousand years in every corner, is a magnificent place where the new and the old intertwine. The Roman, Seljuk, Ottoman Periods and its history dates back to BC. Kayseri Castle, which dates back to the 3rd century, is one of the most interesting places.

Another striking structure in the square is the clock tower. II. Cut stones were used in the construction of the work, which was built during the reign of Abdülhamit, and it was planned in 1906 by Tavlusunlu Salih Usta. The most dominant point of the square is Bürüngüz Mosque and Kurşunlu Mosque. Kurşunlu Mosque, which has a single minaret, was dedicated to Mimar Sinan, who lived in the city until the age of 22, but there are many rumors about whether it was built by him or not. If you need to start from somewhere to visit the city, it is undoubtedly Cumhuriyet Square.

Ottoman Street

There are many cafes you can go to on Ottoman Street, which has an authentic atmosphere. From time to time, live music performances, whirling dervishes and visual shows are exhibited here. The street, which attracts the attention of both local and foreign tourists, takes on a different atmosphere during Ramadan. I recommend visiting in the evening. Because the atmosphere created by the lighting made from the ground adds a distinctive quality to be seen.

Historical Kayseri District

Where is here? Kayseri Historical District, which is a project at its core, is being carried out with such successful plans and practices that it is quite assertive to be one of the important travel spots both now and in the future. The ruined houses that reflect the spirit of Setenönü Neighborhood were brought back to life with the restoration and repair works carried out by the municipality. Covering an area of 88 acres in total, this old Armenian Quarter is an attractive place that carries a historical atmosphere with its efforts to bring it into tourism today.

Mount Ali

Located 10 kilometers south of Talas district, Mount Ali stands out as one of the most important parachute centers in Turkey. It allows paragliders to rise up to 5 thousand meters and fly as far as 150 kilometers. For this reason, it hosts many paragliding championships. This mountain, which opens its doors to many people, both local and foreign, is an ideal spot to enjoy the most beautiful view of Kayseri.

Mount Erciyes (Ski Center)

Erciyes Mountain is the symbol of Kayseri, with its peak passing through the clouds and its snow that is never missing from its summit. Erciyes, which is the first mountain of Central Anatolia and the fifth largest mountain in Turkey, is visited intensely both in summer and in winter by taking on a different beauty in every season. The extinct volcano Erciyes, which caused the formation of Cappadocia as a result of its eruptions exactly 30 million years ago, was given a name meaning White Mountain by the Hittites due to its unmelted snow.

Erciyes Mountain, which is flocked by ski lovers, professional athletes and adventurers every season with its Harkasos powder snow, challenging climbing routes, various flora, fauna and springs, awaits you with its comfortable accommodation opportunities. Due to its high snow quality, it is mostly preferred by professional athletes for mountaineering and glacier climbing in Turkey. This place, which has made a name for itself as a ski center, is very popular today. Mountaineering and hiking activities in winter and trekking tours in summer keep tourism alive.

Sultan Sazlığı (Bird's Paradise)

Declared as a national park in 2006, the bird sanctuary is located on the Develi Plain and its total size is 24,357 hectares. It is known as the second important bird paradise in our country after Lake Manyas. Sultan Marshes, located in Erciyes, 70 kilometers from Kayseri, is a paradise for those who want to watch nature, with nearly 300 bird species and nearly 400 plant species.

Among the bird species; cranes, flamingos and pike-tails, while some use it as a habitat, some prefer this wetland to rest or give birth to their young. You can take a boat ride in these reeds and take pictures of these beautiful birds, accompanied by the wonderful harmony of blue-green and yellow.

Yedigöller

Yedigöller, which comes right after the Hacer Valley, is located in a valley at an altitude of 3000-3500 meters and is the highest, widest and most beautiful plateau and landscape area of the Aladağlar. Only seven of the hundreds of lakes formed by the melting of snow never lack water. The depth of one of the lakes is 80 meters, and after these seven lakes did not dry out, they were named Yedigöller.

Kapuzbaşı Waterfalls are fed by the melting snow waters in Yedigöller. Yedigöller, the highest and widest plateau of the Aladağlar, together with Hacer Forest and Kapuzbaşı Team Waterfalls, is the most important part of the Taurus Aladağlar National Park. Due to its geographical structure, it is one of the important trekking areas in our country. It starts from Yedigöller Hacer Gorge, which has an average floor height of 3100 meters, and continues to Hacer Valley and Forest, and then to Kapuzbaşı Waterfalls.

Kapuzbaşı Şelaleleri

Kapuzbaşı Waterfalls, five small and two small, are poured one after the other, and their heights are between 40 and 60 meters, each of which is strong enough to feed the stream. Kapuzbaşı Waterfall, the second highest waterfall in the world, amazes everyone who sees it. Except for the Victoria waterfall in Uganda, the waterfall is larger than Niagara in the USA, Imatra in Finland, Tortum in Erzurum, Düden in Antalya and Manavgat, and the altitude of the place where the waterfall flows is 700 meters. .

Located on Ensenin Hill within the borders of Küçükçakır Village in Yahyalı district, the waterfall is among the largest waterfalls of our country due to the high level of lush water flowing throughout the year. These seven waterfalls flowing harmoniously from the slopes of the mountain are almost a gift of nature. It offers an opportunity to spend a wonderful day with the areas where you can have a picnic and the calming sound of the water. It is also a popular trekking route and provides a walking experience with a unique view.
